STERLING HISTORICAL MAGAZINE PRINT
The sun beams down in a charming print of a
long-ago town center: churches, horses and
carriages, men in top hats and women in full-skirted
gowns, a pretty town common—Wait! It’s Sterling
center! Entitled “Fifty Years Ago in Sterling”,
this print of a painting by Corwin
Knapp Linson appeared in a magazine called The
Delineator in February, 1913. You will recognize
First Church, the “old” Town
Hall, the former church across from the Town
Hall, and the building next to our “new” Town Hall,
as well as the town common. It is interesting
to know that Linson, 1864-1959, was an artist and illustrator
who worked with his friend and roommate, Stephen
Crane, author of the Civil War novella, "The
Red Badge of Courage". The Sterling
Historical Society generously allowed
us to commission this beautiful reproduction
in full color and its beautiful framing,
done by the Custom Frame Shop
in West Boylston, was generously donated by Remo
Rossi of Sterling. This heirloom quality
item has a total value of $280.

54 - RAINFOREST
REPTILES BIRTHDAY PARTY
Wouldn't you love to plan a totally unique
and exciting birthday party for your child?
A Rainforest
Reptiles birthday presentation
may be just the kind of party you've been looking for!
The presentation runs 1 full hour and is geared appropriately
for the age group we are working with. This includes
the mini zoo set up on a table
( we provide ) with 10 to 14 smaller animals
(bugs, frogs, snakes, lizards, etc.) to look at. In
addition to this there is a presentation of 4 larger
animals by our herpetologist in uniform. These animals
usually include a large tortoise, a
larger lizard, a 7 to 8 ft.
boa or python and of course the American
alligator. Everyone who wants to will have
the opportunity to handle both the snake and
the alligator after the program. Here's the
really fun part -the birthday child
is requested to come up and assist throughout the presentation.
The birthday child also receives a
junior herpetologist certificate and
a genuine alligator tooth at the end
of the presentation. This party is a hands-on
experience that the participants will never
forget! Must be used within one year. This item has

Reptiles and is valued at $250
55 - "SCRAPPY
SQUARES" QUEEN SIZE QUILT
Unique, extraordinary, and incredibly
beautiful, this hand-assembled
queen-sized quilt named “Scrappy Squares” is
a work of art. Carol Woolhiser
of Newcomb, NY, made this quilt for
the Treasures of the Community Auction
at her daughter Shira’s request—and
what a wonderful gift to our cause!
The design is entirely her
own; this is one quilt you will not
see anywhere else. Using dozens of unusual
and colorful fabric pieces (no
two alike!) collected over many years, she created
a striking pattern by setting them in squares
on a white ground. Even the outside border
is composed of scrap pieces in different colors.
The back of the quilt is also
beautifully designed and the quilt is signed
by the maker. It is machine quilted and will
last forever. Calling something a “labor
of love” has become a cliché, but, in this
case, they are the only words we can use.
Designed and handmade by Carol Woolhiser,
this work of art is very modestly valued at $600.

ACTION PHOTO OF RED SOX CAPTAIN JASON VARITEK
How would you like to grace the wall
of your family room, child's bedroom
or your office with a signed
photo of the World Champion
Boston Red Sox
All-Star catcher, Jason
Varitek? You are now presented
with this wonderful opportunity! Since
coming to the Red Sox
as a minor league catcher in one the most lopsided
trades in team history (anyone have fond memories
of Heathcliff
Slocumb?), Varitek has been a mainstay behind

His work ethic, preparation, and leadership led Sox
management to name him team captain,
one of only three Red Sox captains
since 1912. He has been a winner since he was a kid,
having the distinction of being one of only two players
to play in the Little League World Series, the College
World Series, and the Major League World Series. We

Daskalakis, a former NHL goaltender, and

PICTURE OF HOCKEY HALL OF FAMER RAY BOURQUE
In a career that spanned twenty-one seasons,
Raymond Bourque established himself
as one of the greatest hockey players
of all time. He holds the records for
career goals, assists, and points for a defenceman,
most of that accomplished while wearing the spoked B
of the Boston Bruins. In his first
season in 1979, Bourque was the NHL Rookie of
the Year and a first team all-star, a feat
he would accomplish an NHL record thirteen times.
His legacy transcends his on ice accomplishments, however,
because Bourque has always been a symbol of
class and dignity in a sports landscape
littered with self-serving athletic "heros". He remains
very involved in charitable ventures in
this area and we are pleased to offer this wonderful,
signed photo of a true legend. Cleon
Daskalakis, a former NHL goaltender, and
the Celebrities
For Charity Foundation, have donated
this item, valued at $175.
A special thanks to Kaitlyn Montagna
for her help in getting this item. (picture)
