Outreach and Social Responsibility Board
Mission:
Engage the congregation in relating their faith to the wider world through action, advocacy, learning, and financial support; foster an awareness of and involvement with the wider church, both denominationally and ecumenically.
Membership:
Eight members elected at the annual meeting from slate of nominees recruited by Nominating Committee.
Activities and Operations:
Mission Projects and Outreach Programs |
- Provide support for and publicize opportunities for direct involvement in programs including, but not limited to:
- Interfaith Hospitality Network.
- Fair Trade/Serrv.
- James 2:15 Kitchen.
- Palm Sunday Promenade.
- La Romana Mission.
- Sister Village.
- Evaluate existing outreach programs.
- Initiate and/or promote new outreach opportunities.
- Develop and support ecumenical activities.

Church Sponsored Community Outreach |
- Provide support to church sponsored outreach such as Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.
- Oversee church relationship with and provide support to Village Green Preschool.
- Oversee and support the Sterling Children’s Fund – nominating and appointing the board and reviewing the fund activities to ensure distribution of funds according to the intended mission of the fund.
- Evaluate community outreach programs.

Social Concerns |
- Provide a forum for discussion social issues from a faith-based perspective.
- Encourage action and advocacy on issues.

Education |
- Provide learning opportunities in relation to all the above and promote awareness and informed action.
- Promote awareness of denominational programs and policies.

Budget and Special Giving |
- Develop an annual Benevolence Budget and submit to Church Council for recommendation to Church membership.
- Promote benevolence pledges and giving.
- Authorize and promote special and free will offerings.
- Oversee Benevolence Secretary in disbursement of Benevolence funds.
